First Graders Send Letters to Vikings Kicker Blair Walsh to Cheer Him Up – blogged by @LoveRubyWoo

If you’ve been keeping up with the NFL playoffs, you witnessed what happened last week at the end of the grueling game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings. Kicker Blair Walsh had a chance to win the game and help his team to advance to the Divisional Round, but he ended up breaking the hearts of Vikings fans everywhere when he missed the 27-yard field goal. In the eyes of NFL fans, the blame rested squarely on Blair’s shoulders, which is a burden that can’t be easy to carry for the 26-year-old kicker.

Well, to cheer him up, a first grade teacher at Minnesota’s Northpoint Elementary School decided to have her students write letters to Blair to teach the children a lesson about empathy. “I knew that Mr. Walsh probably felt horrible about it,” Judie Offerdahl told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “I also knew it would be a good teachable moment for the kids.”
The kids went above and beyond on their assignment, drawing colorful illustrations and writing supportive messages that Walsh definitely could use right now.

“Dear Blair Walsh,” a letter from first-grader Sophia Doffin read. “I know that it can be hard to get through things that are sad. but you have to try and try again. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. One time I made a mistake when I was doing a cartwheel. I felt embarrassed. You can still help the Vikings win the Super Bowl next year. Your fan, Sophia Doffin.

P.S.: You are the best kicker that I know.

P.P.S.: I hope you win the Super Bowl this year.

P.P.P. S.: I am really a big fan of you.

P.P.P.P.S.: I love the Vikings.”

Cue the awww’s. What an amazing way to cheer someone up!
