Last month, new information regarding Bobby Shmurda’s case surfaced. Sources revealed the rapper took a plea deal to serve seven years in jail and five years probation, with time served. However, in a last minute decision, it seems like Bobby was ready to scrap the whole thing.
On Wednesday, Bobby, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, told the Manhattan Supreme Court Justice that his lawyer forced him into accepting the deal.
“I don’t want to take this sentence,” Pollard said. “I want to drop my plea.”
If you recall, Pollard revealed the reasoning behind the plea deal in an interview last month. “I did it for Rowdy,” he said. “They offered me five and offered Rowdy 12. They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if i took seven too. So, you know, I had to take on for the dawgs.”
Suddenly reluctant Pollard ditched the plan and addressed his lawyer.
“I want to drop my plea and fire you…Why are you telling me to waive my rights? I am not waiving my rights?” Pollard said.
However, District Attorney Nigel Farinha went forward with the sentencing and the judge imposed the seven year sentence on the rapper.
Apparently, while in Rikers, Pollard was targeted for beatings, pepper sprayings and illegal lockdowns by the guards, according to Pollard’s mother, Leslie.
Additionally, she said her son did not deserve the sentence he received, calling him a bright young man.
