Kehinde

These days, it seems like this country has become so dark and dim. Due to all of the tragedies the country faces, there’s a need for hope to be restored. As the attack on black lives continues, there is a need for positivity to be reinstated within the community. So, as continue our #BlackExcellence series, we would like to highlight and congratulate the award winning painter, Kehinde Wiley on his debut at Le Petite Palais in Paris.

The Los Angeles born, New York based visual artist has been on a mission to make his mark in the art world. Wiley’s style is a cross between traditional portrait painting and black history. Through his artwork, Wiley uses classic European style to glorify urban black and brown men. He portrays black men found throughout the world as heroic, powerful, and majestic beings, SKNY reports. All while, continuing with the blue print of portrait painting.

Portrait painting with a twist. In addition, Wiley’s work blurs the boundaries between traditional and contemporary, in regards to representation. With his portrayal of the masculinity and physicality of black and brown young men.

Finally, Wiley and his collection, Lamentation are on the way to Paris. For his first solo art exhibit in France, Wiley will display ten of his monumental pieces. From October 20th to January 15th at Petit Palais, Wiley’s work will be at the center of the museum.the_lamentation_over_the_dead_christ

Additionally, Wiley’s work will be presented at Phoenix Art Museum from October 7th to January 8, 2017.
