A stabbing at a Utah high school, Tuesday, has left 5 students injured and one in police custody.
According to reports, a 16-year-old straight-A-student with no record, attacked the students with a knife in the Mountain View High School locker room. The incident occurred around 8 am, as students were getting ready for their morning P.E. class. The suspect used a knife with a 3-inch blade to attack five male victims. High school junior, Karen Martinez, noticed three boys running from the area toward the school’s main office, all apparently injured. Sources say, one of the students had a head injury, another had a neck wound and the other had blood on the back of his shirt.
“It was awful,” Martinez said. “It was so terrifying. I didn’t know any of the kids but still it was like an awful feeling to see all those kids getting hurt.”
Officials say the suspect is a new student, a sophomore who was homeschooled the year before. He has not been identified by name because he is a minor.
Reportedly, the suspect turned the knife on himself as well, stabbing himself in the neck before being subdued with a Taser by an officer working at the school. The parents of the suspect wrote a letter apologizing for their son’s actions. They also said the incident had not been racially or ethnically driven.
“We are at a loss to express how deeply sorry we are for the pain and injury caused,” they wrote.
All of the victims are expected to survive, however, two are in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.
