Back in October, Derrick Rose was found not guilty of sexually assaulting a woman who claimed he and his friend broke into her apartment and gang raped her. Though it was the accuser who was seeking $21.5 million in damages, now that Derrick Rose has been proven innocent, he could likely get a big pay out.
Derrick Rose is now seeking to recoup the $70,000 he spent defending himself in court. Because he won the civil trial, he is allowed to ask the court to require the loser to pay some of his court costs.
“After a two-week jury trial, unanimous verdict and judgment in their favor on all nine claims, Mr. Rose, Mr. [Ryan] Allen, and Mr. [Randall] Hampton are unquestionably the prevailing party entitled to the tiny fraction of the actual expenses they necessarily incurred in defending themselves against Plaintiff’s false claims against them,” read recent court docs.
A nine-person jury ruled found Rose and his two friends were not liable. Reportedly, the accuser plans to appeal the jury’s ruling.
