Lebron James is doing his part to support an exhibit dedicated to the life of one of his heroes.  It was announced Thursday that James, his charitable foundation and his business partner Maverick Carter,  will be donating $2.5 million to Ali’s exhibit at the recently opened Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C.

“Muhammad Ali is such a cornerstone of me as an athlete because of what he represented not only in the ring as a champion but more outside the ring — what he stood for, what he spoke for, his demeanor,” Lebron tells USA TODAY. “I think of him every day. Without his passion and goals and morals, I don’t know if I’d be sitting here today talking to you about it.”

Lebron joins the list of NBA greats who have donated to the museum including Michael Jordan, who donated $5 million, and Magic Johnson and his wife Cookie, who donated at least $1 million.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture opened its doors in September 2016 and has been booked in advance through March 2017. Same day passes are still available. Will you be visiting?
