LSU football player Dillon Gordon was involved in an altercation late Monday night that led to him being stabbed. Gordon was out at a popular LSU-area bar called Reggie’s when a fight broke out a little after midnight. Gordon sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest, leg, and abdomen as a result of the fight and the suspect has yet to be identified. Luckily, the injuries were not life-threatening and Gordon was treated at a local hospital after the incident. “Thank you Lord it just wasn’t my time ,” he tweeted shortly after. The senior tight end, who was also dealing with a football-related Achilles injury, is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the field next year.
In the wake of the incident, LSU head coach Les Miles has declared a ban on his players, telling them that they are not allowed to go to bars in the future.
“I’m cutting it off,” Miles said at a press conference on Tuesday. “It’s just not worth it. The reason you go out is because you want social interaction. Social interaction can take place at home, at class, can take place at a number of places. You don’t have to go to a fight night club.”
This is not the first time an LSU player has been involved in an altercation while being out at the campus bars and it seems that with this latest incident, Miles is finally fed up. Last summer, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher similarly banned his players from going to bars after high-profile incidents involving quarterback De’Andre Johnson and running back Dalvin Cook occurred. There’s no telling how long the ban on LSU’s players will hold up or whether it will even successfully keep players out of bars, but if it can keep FSU’s players out of trouble, it might just work for Les Miles and his guys too.
