A Tampa Lyft driver was held at gunpoint for about 11 hours and forced to drive four men around the city, according to Tampa police.
Police say the incident began around 11pm on a Tuesday, when the driver picked up four men. According to authorities, one of them sat in the front seat, showed a gun and told the driver he was working for them that night. Police say the driver was then made to take the group to about 30 locations, where the men allegedly committed retail thefts and drug transactions. At each stop, one of the men reportedly stayed in the car.
Authorities also said the men typed addresses into the driver’s GPS app on his phone and used the phone to take pictures of themselves. According to police, one of the pictures was posted to a Facebook page.
Police say the ordeal ended around 10am Wednesday, when the driver dropped the men off on a Tampa street. The men reportedly warned him that they would kill him if he called the police, but the driver flagged down an officer anyway. Two of the suspects, Aaron, 18, and Willie, 18, were arrested at a nearby basketball court and were being held on $100,000 bail. Tampa police were still searching for the other two men.
The details above come from police accounts, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
