French police have arrested at least 16 people in connection to Kim Kardashian’s robbery incident in Paris last October. According to reports, DNA evidence was a huge factor in the high profile case.
“One of the DNA samples matched an individual known to police for robbery and criminal offenses, who is considered a major thug,” one police official told Agence France-Presse. He added that they were then able to “build up a picture of the criminal network behind the robbery … adding that it stretched to Belgium.”
In the early hours on October 3, 5 masked gunman broke into the residence where Kim Kardashian was staying, tied her up and robbed her at gunpoint of at least $9 million worth of jewelry.
Luc Poignant, a spokesman for a police union, says it’s not uncommon for there to be numerous people involved in a crime such as this.
“You have the robbers, and then the one who is going to sell off the goods, the one who puts people in touch, the stone cutter, etc,” Poignant said.
He also said the investigation was over rather quickly.
“It didn’t take a lot of time,” he said. “It took three months, and three months in this kind of investigation is quite short.”
On the upcoming season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim recalls the night of the robbery and how she thought she was going to die.
“They’re going to shoot me in the back,” she remembered thinking. “There’s no way out of it.”
