On Monday, New York podcast host Tax Stone, real name Daryl Campbell, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the 2016 Irving Plaza shooting.
Initially, a judge set a $500,000 bail, with house arrest and free rein to fulfill his work-related responsibilities, such as recording his podcast. However, after the prosecutor appealed Campbell’s bail, the New York native found himself back inside the courtroom for the appeal hearing.
According to NY Daily News, on Wednesday, prosecutors convinced Manhattan Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan to deny Campbell’s bail. Apparently, they reiterated their argument that Campbell posed a threat to the community. Additionally, prosecutors said witness testimony would place Campbell at the scene, firing the shot that, at a minimum, killed Ronald McPhatter.
As a result, Campbell will not be released on bail. Prosecutors say Campbell may face additional charges as well.
Campbell’s lawyer has refuted the claims of the prosecutor, maintaining that his client is not violent. He said the prosecutors misinterpreted his podcast to “wrongly cast him as a gang member,” NY Daily News reports.
In the meantime, Tax Stone’s podcast, “Tax Season,” has announced that they are taking a hiatus and thanked fans for the continued support.
