Trump Blames Media for Labeling Travel Ban as a #MuslimBan, Despite Only Banning Muslims

Ban

On Sunday, after hundreds gathered outside of JFK Airport to protest #DonaldTrump’s recent travel ban executive order, a top Trump official reneged on one of the most controversial aspects of the new order, the detention and deportation of green-card holders.
“As far as green-card holders going forward, it doesn’t affect them,” #ReincePriebus, the President’s chief of staff said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” which is the complete opposite of what was originally stated by the White House in regards to the order.
In light of the massive protests erupting across the country in response to Trump’s ban; which limits the entry to the US for refugees and visa holders of seven Muslim-majority nations, Trump showed no signs of a reversal. Instead, he tried to clear things up. As the order continues to cause controversy, in light of its legality, the White House released a statement defending the executive order and comparing it to the actions of his predecessor in 2011. In addition, he vowed to resume issuing visas once the Department of Homeland Security secures a plan over the next 90 days.

“America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those freeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border,” the statement read.

Despite the ban only targeting Muslim countries and Trump saying that Christian refugees would have first priority to enter the country, he insists this isn’t about religion.

“To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting,” Trump said in the statement. “This is not about religion — this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order.”

It has previously been reported that Donald Trump has businesses in several of the Muslim-majority countries that are not affected by this order. However, he says that his actions are what’s best for the nation.

“I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian cross is Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President i will find ways to help all those who are suffering.”
