Per a leaked draft obtained by Washington Post, Trump has proposed several plans to help weed out immigrants.
A draft order under consideration suggests that immigrants are more likely to be on public assistance. However, they did not provide supporting evidence to prove that fact. The draft also says that immigrant works are contributing to unemployment among U.S. workers, though there’s no consensus among experts about immigration’s impact on government benefits or on U.S. jobs.
“Our country’s immigration laws are designed to protect American taxpayers and promote immigrant self-sufficiency. Yet households headed by aliens are much more likely than those headed by citizens to use Federal means-tested public benefits,” reads one draft order obtained by The Washington Post, titled “Executive Order on Protecting Taxpayer Resources by Ensuring Our Immigration Laws Promote Accountability and Responsibility.”
According to Vox, people who use any of those benefits (ex. TANF) and are in the US on visas would be subject to deportation. The order would even go as far as to force the person who sponsored the immigrant into the US to reimburse the federal government for the benefits used.
