Billboard published a lengthy article on Thursday in which unnamed current and former members of Chris Brown’s circle describe what they say is a difficult stretch in the singer’s life. The claims come from anonymous sources, and Baller Alert has not independently confirmed them.
According to Billboard, people who have worked with Brown allege he has struggled with substance use and with his mental health, and that some team members have been worried about him. Brown has not been shown to have confirmed these accounts, and the allegations should be read as claims made by the sources quoted.
The article also draws on public information about Brown’s past. Billboard notes that after he attacked then girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, he was sentenced to six months of community labor, a year of counseling and five years of probation. It also notes that he has been arrested since then and has been through rehab programs.
Brown has spoken about his own struggles publicly. In the trailer for his documentary Welcome to My Life, he talks about dark moments and says he was not taking care of himself.
Not everyone quoted by Billboard paints the same picture. His longtime choreographer Flii Stylz said, “He’s not crazy,” and added that Brown is going through a lot. Flii Stylz said the people around Brown want to see him doing what he does best, dancing and singing.
Brown is preparing for his Party Tour, which is set to visit 33 cities across the country starting March 31 in Baltimore.
Baller Alert will keep you posted if Brown or his team responds to the article.
