Seahawks’ Michael Bennett Vows to Donate His Endorsement Money to Charities That Help Minorities

Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett has consistently been one of the most outspoken players in the NFL when it comes to protesting racial inequalities and promoting social justice. To prove that he’s not all talk, Bennett is taking action and putting his money where his mouth is. The NFL veteran has promised to take all of the endorsement money that he will earn this year and donate it to charities, specifically ones that help minorities.

Bennett’s endorsement money will go towards charities that focus on empowering women of color and helping minority communities, particularly in the area of education. He also plans on using fifty percent of the proceeds from his jersey sales to fund inner-city garden projects.

“I was inspired by Chance the Rapper to ‘think bigger’ when he pledged one million dollars to Chicago kids and their school system,” Bennett said in a statement. “So, I’ll be joining him by investing in the future of our youth. The system is failing our kids, and it will be up to the community and our leaders to help keep the hope alive by focusing on improving our education system and the future of our kids. Any company that decides to invest in me, just know that you’ll be investing in opportunities and providing inspiration for these families — many who feel unnoticed or go unmentioned.”

While Bennett’s efforts will undoubtedly go a long way in making a difference in the community, he knows that one person can only do so much. As such, he is encouraging his peers to follow in his footsteps. “I’m asking all professional athletes to join me by donating a portion of your endorsements this year to a cause of your choice. We can make a difference. It’s up to us to help plant seeds of hope and help fuel the future.”
