Suge Knight is reportedly claiming he knows who was behind the 1996 shooting that killed Tupac Shakur, and that he was the real target.

According to the Daily Mail, a signed affidavit was taken on July 18, 2015, by former LAPD detective Russell Poole. In it, Suge’s attorney, Thaddeus Culpepper, states that his client told him his former wife, Sharitha Knight, and former Death Row Records security chief Reggie Wright Jr. were behind the shooting. The affidavit says Suge first refused to name anyone, then spoke up after watching the documentary Tupac Assassination: Battle for Compton, telling Culpepper its theories were true.

A spokesperson for the film said Culpepper told the filmmakers that Suge confirmed the film’s account, in which Suge was the intended target and Tupac was struck instead. The claim also suggests the 1996 shooting may have been the first of several attempts on Suge’s life, including the shooting at a Los Angeles club in which he was hit multiple times.

Poole said in the affidavit that the alleged motive was control of Death Row Records, claiming Sharitha stood to benefit if Suge died because the two were not yet divorced. These are allegations and none of them have been proven.

Reggie Wright Jr. has responded by saying he had nothing to do with Tupac’s death. Sharitha has also denied involvement, according to reports.

Suge is currently in jail facing murder and attempted murder charges in a separate case.
