Black Women, in my opinion, used to be the most GLORIFIED group of women. Don’t tear these comments up but, what changed?
I’m not bashing any other races, at all. I believe we are all created equally. I love all people, but I am a black woman. I have questions though. Does Sway have the answers? Why do SOME Black Men not love us anymore? Why are our kids disrespecting some of us? Why does our job underpay us? Why are we labeled ANGRY? What happened to Love Jones love?
I think I have figured it out. We’re strong with a hint of emotion and a side of fear. Meaning, we take it all, hold it all in, are afraid to let it go, and let it show. This is the truth about being a Black Woman in America.
Another truth about being a black woman in America is that everyone will almost always assume.
We’re almost ALWAYS assumed to do the following but…
- Maybe I don’t want braids this summer, ma’am.
- Maybe I don’t have multiple baby fathers.
- Maybe I don’t want to marry an athlete for money.
- Maybe my kids can READ. (They swear our kids can’t read… ok let me stop)
- Maybe I’m not ANGRY. (As I type that frowning)
- Maybe I don’t want to have Kool-Aid with my fried chicken today, ma’am.
- Maybe I do wear my real hair.
- Maybe my ass is real.
- Maybe my breasts are too.
- Maybe I don’t listen to Drake. (But I do)
- No, I’m sorry; I can’t show you how to get your hair to curl up.
- Maybe I don’t want bundles today. Just a blow out, press, with some edge control will suffice.
- Maybe I don’t know anything about welfare.
I think what we need to learn is that the assumptions mean nothing compared to the evidence.
What is the evidence you may ask?
We are Strong
We are Educated
We are Emotional
We Love hard
We Love our Black Men
We will PROTECT our Children
The Truth is, we are normal women but we need a little bit of love sometimes. We need to be reminded sometimes that we are a very strong group of women, and that’s one thing that CAN BE ASSUMED.
Don’t judge us just yet.
