Next summer, UFC fighter Ronda Rousey will have the chance to redeem herself after her incredibly embarrassing loss to Holly Holm last month. UFC President Dana White said on Wednesday that the two female bantamweight fighters will see each other again, with the rematch scheduled tentatively for July 9, 2016 in Las Vegas.
Holm originally wanted to fight Miesha Tate next, another strong fighter who has won her last four matches. Tate currently sits at number 3 on the MMA women’s bantamweight rankings, behind Holm and Rousey. However, the UFC has made it clear that a rematch between Rousey and Holm is their first priority right now.
When asked about the impending rematch, Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez threw some shade at Rousey. “I’m not sure Ronda will be ready for a July fight,” Fresquez said. “She took a severe beating and I don’t think it’s in her best interest to take the next fight so fast.”
However, White, who is a good friend of Rousey’s, backs her 100%. “Ronda is the fiercest competitor I have ever met in my life and she’s also very proud,” he said. “She will overcome it and be back.”
Once both Rousey and Holm’s camps agree to the date, the rematch will officially be underway.
