Adele’s new album ,’25,’ is killing the charts. ’25’ has not only sold the most albums in a single week, but has also had a record breaking second week. Unfortunately with success comes scrutiny.
Adele is being accused of plagiarizing the music of iconic Kurdish musician, Ahmet Kaya, on her song “Million Years Ago.”
Billboard reported that Adele’s “Million Years Ago” and Ahmet’s 1985 “Acilar Turunmak” (Clinging to Pain) share similarities. Allegedly even Ahmet’s wife chimed in on the matter. She offered that Adele probably didn’t steal the song maliciously but also stated that “however, if she consciously did it, then it would be theft.”
Fans in Turkey have caused quite a stir on social media, accusing Adele of stealing the song from their beloved Ahmet Kaya, who died in France in exile 15 years ago.
