In the middle of the controversy surrounding Fox News Network and the allegations of a sexist work environment, Fox News host Jess Watters is under fire for his role in perpetuating the claims.
On Tuesday’s episode of “The Five,” the administrators showed a clip of Ivanka Trump’s speech at a women’s issues panel in Berlin, Germany. In the video clip, Trump was shown holding a microphone close to her mouth as she discussed her father’s commitment to women’s rights.
“It’s funny. The Left says they really respect women and then when given an opportunity to respect a woman like that they boo and hiss,” Jess Watters said, of the audiences’ reception of Trump after she defended her father’s stance on women’s issues. “So, I don’t really get what’s going on her, but I really liked how she was speaking into that microphone,” he added, gesturing his hand to his mouth to simulate oral sex.
The statement quickly sparked controversy with several opposing parties calling Watters out via social media. However, in turn, Watters said his comment was about Trump’s voice and was not meant to be sexual.
“During the break, we were commenting on Ivanka’s voice and how it was low and steady and resonates like a smooth jazz radio DJ,” he said. “This was in no way a joke about anything else.”
Now, just three days after the statement aired, Watters will be taking a brief vacation.
“I’m going to be taking a vacation with my family, so I’m not going to be here tomorrow,” Watters said during his show, reports state “I’ll be back on Monday, so don’t miss me too much.”
