In retirement, many use their newfound free time to accomplish things that their career never allowed the time for. Others follow their dreams and pursue alternative options.
Former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal is leaning towards the latter, as he has announced that he is planning to run for Sheriff in 2020.
“In 2020, I plan on running for Sheriff,” the big man told WXIA in Atlanta, without providing further details on which state, as he has yet to decided.
“This is not about politics,” O’Neal revealed. “This is about bringing people closer together. You know, when I was coming up, people loved and respected the police, the deputies. And, I want to be the one to bring that back, especially in the community I serve.”
O’Neal has always been fond of law enforcement, as the baller has previously been sworn in as an honorary deputy, PEOPLE reports. However, he has yet tor receive practical hands-on experience as a police officer.
“I know how to run a team,” he said. “My style is going to be to surround myself with guys who have been doing it way longer than I’ve been doing it. Surround myself with smarter people. I know it’ll be more successful.”
Shaq for Sheriff has a nice ring to it.
