One year after the Irving Plaza shooting that left one dead and three injured, New York Daily News reports that Tax Stone has pleaded guilty to federal gun charges in connection to the incident.
In January, Tax, real name Daryl Campbell, was arrested in Brooklyn after officials issued a federal warrant, charging him with possession of a firearm as a felon in connection to the deadly melee. Just before rapper T.I. was set to take the stage at Irving Plaza in New York, gunfire erupted throughout the venue, striking three, including rapper Troy Ave, and killing his bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter.
Although officials never charged Campbell with McPhatter’s murder, previous reports reveal the podcaster’s DNA was discovered on the murder weapon. In addition, prosecutors claimed Campbell “fired one shot that killed Ronald McPhatter.” Troy Ave’s DNA was also present on the weapon.
Campbell has since plead guilty to possession of a gun as a felon and obtaining a gun in interstate commerce. If convicted on all charges, Campbell faces up to 20 years in prison.
In the meantime, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has charged Troy Ave with attempted murder for his connection with the shooting that left his friend dead. However, Troy has maintained his innocence, saying he wrestled the gun away from the shooter and fired shots in self-defense.
