Floyd Mayweather Reportedly Wants to Pay Unpaid Taxes With Money from McGregor Fight, McGregor Says he Should Have Stayed Retired

Last week, Floyd Mayweather Jr. reportedly filed a petition to be pardoned from unpaid taxes until after the highly anticipated fight against Conor McGregor.

In the petition, Mayweather revealed that his assets are not easily converted into cash. Therefore, he’d like to pay off the balance of the 2015 tax liability after he receives his payment from the fight of the year. In addition, since 15 months have passed since the original due date, Mayweather would owe an additional 7.5 percent in penalties, so he’s asked the government to reduce that amount as well.

After reports surfaced of Mayweather’s petition, the undefeated boxer took to Instagram to refute the claims that he owes any money to the IRS. But, not before McGregor got wind of the news. In a short interview with TMZ Sports, McGregor fired a few shots at Mayweather, saying the champ should have stayed retired.

“That’s gotta sting,” he said. “He shoulda paid his taxes and stayed retired and kept my name out of his mouth.

In turn, Mayweather revealed that he did pay the IRS in 2015.

“While everyone is counting my money and assuming the worst, these are the facts…Uncle Sam, received $26,000,000.00 from me in 2015! What else could they possibly want?” he wrote. “I’m sure I would have been notified much sooner if there were any real discrepancies, right? Bottom line, everybody just wants to be a part of the “Money May” show, including the IRS! That’s fine, you can crunch numbers all day but in the end, my empire is rock solid and intact! Now Calculate That!”
