Early Friday morning, a Manhattan couple committed suicide because they couldn’t afford health care to take care of their medical issues.

According to the NY Post, The bodies of the couple were found on 33rd Street between Park and Madison after the two jumped from the 9th floor window of an office building around 5L45 am.

The 53-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife left two suicide notes in a ziploc bag, that also contained their IDs. However, police have yet to release the identities of the Manhattan parents. In the notes, the couple requested that their two kids be cared for in the event of their death.

The woman’s note was reportedly found in her pocket and read, “in sum and substance, ‘our kids are upstairs, please take care of them.’” While the man’s note read, “WE HAD A WONDERFUL LIFE.”

The man’s note detailed the couple’s struggles with their medical issues, saying “Patricia and I had everything in life,” but after suffering from a “financial spiral,” they just couldn’t live with the “financial reality.”

“We both have medical issues, we just can’t afford the health care,” the note continued.
