A Virginia mom is facing charges after allegedly killing her 6-year-old daughter with a shotgun blast in an effort to protect her from aliens.
According to reports, 27-year-old Darla Elizabeth Hise turned a gun on her daughter Abigail in their home in Hot Springs, VA back in February. Upon her arrest, Hise was taken to a psychiatric hospital for treatment, where she explained her reason for shooting and killing her child.
In the interview with officials, Hise revealed that “she believed her daughter and son were in danger from aliens and she thought she was going to save her daughter by sending her to heaven,” Hise’s attorney, Tony Anserson, wrote in a motion to toss her confession, which was filed last week. Anserson added that the woman was under the heavy influence of “drugs and psychosis” which compromised her ability to make sound decisions and prompted her to waive her Miranda rights to remain silent.
At the time of the incident, the woman’s three-year-old son was found in the home, uninjured. He was then placed in the care of family members, as the woman received treatment for her alleged psychotic break.
In the motion to suppress Hise’s statement to police, Anserson said Hise told officials that she had “aliens in her body and wanted them removed from her stomach” and was speaking incoherently at the hospital, just before she was diagnosed with “possible drug-induced psychosis vs. PTSD psychosis.”
Hise was then charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, two counts of use of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and having a firearm while in the possession of drugs. She has since pleaded not guilty to all charges.
In the meantime, Anserson also filed a motion to have Hise’s trial moved to a different jurisdiction, as the murder had a compromising impact on the community.
