Upon the news that Game of Thrones creators were considering a television series where slavery never ended, Filmmaker Will Packer and Boondocks’ Aaron McGruder have announced “Black America.”
Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, announced a new show titled, “Confederate,” in which, according to Deadline, they will discuss an alternate in history where seceded southern states still practice slavery. Now, it’s been announced that another alternative history show is coming to life, one where newly freed slaves received the Southern states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as reparations.
Film producer Will Packer, best known for the Ride Along, Think Like A Man franchises, as well as Girls Trip, and Boondocks and Black Jesus creator Aaron McGruder created the drama “Black America,” about the sovereign states, New Colonia, and their sometimes tumultuous relationship with the United States. The show will be serviced through Amazon.
“It was something that was personally intriguing for me as a black American,” Packer told Deadline. “You would be hard pressed to find many black Americans who have not thought about the concept of reparation, what would happen if reparations were actually given. As a content creator, the fact that that is something that has been discussed thoroughly throughout various demographics of people in this country but yet never been explored to my knowledge in any real way in long-form content, I thought it was a tremendous opportunity to delve into the story, to do it right.”
Will you be tuning in to “Black America” when it gets an air date?
