In the aftermath of the Charlottesville riots, L’Oreal’s first transgender model, Munroe Bergdorf, took to Facebook to express her disgust and disappointment in the events that lead to the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

Her post gained widespread recognition, as it was taken as criticisms of all white people, when in fact, her statement was meant to be a wake up call to encourage white people to acknowledge the racism and violence that is embedded in our country’s history and justice system. However, L’Oreal did not take kindly to Bergdorf’s statement.

Shortly after the post surfaced, L’Oreal dropped the model.

Now, many have come forward to stand in solidarity with the model, speaking out in support of Bergdorf’s comments.

In an Instagram photo posted last week, Clara Amfo became the latest to support Bergdorf in her fight against systematic racism. On Wednesday, Amfo shared a photo of Bergdorf with a caption explaining her position in the situation.

“Not even a week ago I was proud to announce that I was to be in the same campaign as Munroe. A trans woman of colour who lorealmakeup hired to sell make up because of who she is,” Amfo wrote. “Who she is, a woman who wrote a nuanced post on institutional racism and white supremacy in relation to Charlottesville and how the foundations of those heinous ideals trickle into every facet of our society. A newspaper took her post out of context and span it as “a rant” with the most basic of dog whistle politics to rally people against her. She has now been dropped from the campaign because L’Oreal feel that she is “at odds with our values”….if she’s not “worth it” anymore, I guess I’m not either. #IStandWithMunroe.”

Since then, Amfo has asked the company to remove her images from the campaign, as she has stepped down from her position with L’Oreal to stand in solidarity with Munroe.
