On Monday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of a black man who was viciously beaten in a parking garage in Charlottesville. The incident occurred during the fatal white supremacist rally in August, just two months before the hate group returned to the scene of the crime with no consequence.
Photo and video evidence of the incident was captured during the melee. In the photo, DeAndre Harris is pictured on the ground of the garage as white supremacist stomp him out, wielding wooden logs toward his body.
According to reports, an unidentified white supremacist reported the incident to the police, which was later confirmed by a detective. Apparently, another white supremacist tried to pierce a counter-protester with a flagpole, prompting Harris to intervene, swinging a flashlight in the man’s direction. In turn, several white supremacists then attacked him in retaliation, knocking him unconscious repeatedly.
Although two of the men involved with Harris’ beating have been arrested and charged, a magistrate issued a warrant for Harris’ arrest for the same felony crime as his attackers. The alleged victim maintains that Harris initiated the altercation, however, Harris’ lawyer claims the charge is “clearly retaliatory.”
