Roger Goodell’s Wife Caught Using a Fake Twitter Account to Defend Him

Just one month after Golden State Warriors’ Kevin Durant got caught using a fake Twitter account to defend himself against critics, Roger Goodell’s wife got caught doing the same thing.

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding NFL player’s national anthem protest, Goodell has been met with a lot of criticism for his mismanagement of the issue. However, when under attack, a Twitter account, under the name “Jones smith” quickly jumped to his defense.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Back in September, @ProFootballTalk tweeted that it would be “on the commissioner” to resolve the national anthem controversy. In turn, @forargument responded: “Please do better reporting. He is already doing this. You are behind.”

The Twitter handle also fired off a tweet earlier this month in response to an ESPN story about Trump’s attack on the NFL, saying, “Reads like a press release from players’ union. You can do better reporting (D Smith sounds like D Trump with the inaccurate firebombs),” in reference to NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the account was created back in 2014, had no pictures and had spent much of its time dormant. But, as the backlash increased over the anthem, Goodell’s anonymous Twitter fan returned in his defense.

However, on Thursday, after connecting the dots, based on the Twitter follows, the Wall Street Journal was able to figure out that the fake account was actually, #JaneGoodell.

“It was a REALLY silly thing to do and done out of frustration-and love,” Jane said of her account. “As a former media member, I’m always bothered when the coverage doesn’t provide a complete and accurate picture of a story. I’m also a wife and a mom. I have always passionately defended the hardworking guy I love – and I always will. I just may not use Twitter to do so in the future!”

The account has since been deleted.
