On Sunday, Phoenix Suns’ Eric Bledsoe tweeted “I don’t wanna be here,” which appeared to be a display of displeasure with the franchise. About an hour later, Bledsoe’s former teammate DeAndre Jordan appeared to respond, tweeting, “Come back home bro.” Shortly after, the Phoenix Suns announced the firing of head coach, Earl Watson, just three games into the 2017-18 season.
The team finished last season at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 24-58 record. This season, the team started off even worse at 0-3, including the worst opening night loss in NBA history. However, with Watson’s dismissal, associate head coach, Jay Triana, will step in as interim, as the team’s owner and GM interview to fill the position.
According to reports, Watson’s firing is the first in the NBA since 2016, but also the fastest head coach firing in league history after just three games. Watson was hired back in 2016, as the interim, after the team let go of Jeff Hornacek.
