More than two-dozen artists and groups have been selected as nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Among the amazing talent, which includes Tom Waits, Kool & the Gang, and the Isley Brothers is none other than the diva herself, Mariah Carey.
According to Billboard, this is Carey’s first nomination for the prestigious honor after co-writing 17 of her 18 Number 1 records. However, Carey isn’t the only one benefiting from her massive success. Jermaine Dupri, who also co-wrote some of the singer’s hits, has been tapped as a nominee for this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony as well.
Also earning their first nomination for the Hall of Fame is the Compton rap group, NWA. If inducted, the group will become the second rap act to accomplish the feat, following Jay-Z’s induction earlier this year.
Writers, both non-performing and performing, become eligible 20 years after their initial songwriting successes, reports state. Afterwards, six songwriters, or groups, are voted and inducted into the Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place in New York on June 14.
