Just one day after Dream’s Melissa Schuman accused Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter of rape, the former boy band singer denied the claims of non-consensual sex.

According to TMZ, Carter released a statement, saying, “I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that, anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally.”

“This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm,” he continued.

In a graphic blog post, the former pop star accused Carter of forcible oral sex and rape. She said the two began dating after their managers suggested it for PR purposes. Schuman also revealed that she told her manager of the incident after it occurred, but was informed that Carter’s legal team was too powerful to overcome.
