Donald Trump’s Personal Lawyer Says The President Can’t Be Guilty of Obstruction of Justice

In the wake of Trump’s admittance of obstruction of justice, the Celebrity-in-Chief’s personal lawyer, #JohnDowd, says the President can’t be guilty of obstructing justice. Although Dowd took responsibility for drafting the controversial tweet, the following day, the lawyer still attempted to clear his client’s name of the crime.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“(The) President cannot obstruct justice because he is the chief law enforcement officer under (the Constitution’s Article II) and has every right to express his view of any case,” Dowd told Axios in an interview.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Dowd’s explanation that Trump is ultimately above the law came after Trump’s Twitter account suggested that he knew Michael Flynn had lied to the FBI before he was fired in February. If Trump, in fact, knew Flynn committed the felony, many would consider that as obstruction, but according to Dowd, “That is an ignorant and arrogant assertion.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In turn, former Obama administration White House counsel refuted Dowd’s statement, saying, “There is no express grant of immunity under the Constitution to protect the President who commits a felony,” he said to CNN. “Those who have argued for it have to cobble together their case primarily out of a concern about the debilitating effects of a President in legal trouble on the conduct of government.”
