Just weeks after Donald Trump lied about being offered to cover this year’s Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ issue, the magazine has officially revealed its 2017 Person of the Year.  Exclusively on the “Today” show, the magazine unveiled “The Silence Breakers,” the women who gave a voice to sexual assault and harassment through the #MeToo movement.

According to NBC News, the movement commenced back in 2006 by activist Tarana Burke but sparked widespread recognition in October after several women accused powerhouse producer, Harvey Weinstein of sexual abuse. Several big named celebrities as well as frequent Twitter users used to the social media site to share their own experiences of sexual abuse to show others that they are not alone in the fight against assault, abuse, misconduct, and harassment.

“I could never imagine this, I could never have envisioned something that could change the world,” Burke told the “Today” show as the cover was revealed.

Time featured some women who spoke out against Weinstein in the wake of the wave of sexual assault allegations brought forth against him, including Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd. But the magazine also featured several women who have shared their own stories, including, Taylor Swift, Adama Iwu, Isabel Pascual, Alyssa Milano and Susan Fowler.

“As women we have to support each other and stand up and say, ‘No More,” Milano said at the unveiling. Although, despite the increased allegations against Weinstein, the producer has denied all allegations and no criminal charges have been brought forth against him. However, the movement has given a voice to that have remained silent due to the stigma for sexual assault.

“Sexual harassment does bring shame,” Burke said. “And I think it’s really powerful that this transfer is happening, that these women are able not just to share their shame but to put the shame where it belongs: on the perpetrator.”
