As we continue the Christmas countdown, we have yet another scenario that happens to plenty of us but often times, goes overlooked.

For the most part, being dumped at any time of the year is pretty difficult. However, it always seems harder for us around the holidays. While there is no true remedy for heartbreak, there are a few things you can do to keep your mind off wanting that old thing back and a few things you should most definitely avoid.

⠀⠀
Do: Spend more time with family and friends
If you have great relationships with your family and some awesome friends, getting through this holiday season will be a breeze. As long as you keep yourself busy by spending time with those you love, your old boo will remain “out of sight, out of mind.”

Don’t: Swipe through Instagram, comparing yourself to others
“Oh my god! ‘So and so’ just got engaged!” While that’s great news, it’s ok to admit that you might be in a vulnerable place right now and seeing these type of posts might set you off. Don’t compare your experiences to anybody else’s because everything happens for a reason. Trust your journey and know that it’s something better on the horizon.

Do: Get a tarot reading
Sounds crazy, right? But no, seriously. As a newcomer to reading tarot cards, I’ve come to find a deep appreciation for how much they put things into perspective. If you want more insight into how this break-up will affect your new growth, there’s no better way to find out. Plus, tarot readers always have the deals around this time of year.

Don’t: Find a new bae for the holidays
I know you want someone to bring to Christmas Eve dinner, or someone to flex with for the ‘gram, but issa no. Don’t set yourself up for failure by making things more complicated than they have to be. Sit with this situation, let it marinate, and find out how you can grow from it. Getting a new boo is not going to remedy this heartache. If anything, it’ll make it worse.

⠀⠀
Do: Quality time alone
If spending time with your friends and family doesn’t sound appealing, it’s always nice to spend some quality time with the most important person in this equation: you. Meditate, start a new book, buy yourself gifts, have a movie night, do whatever will keep you at peace during this jolly time of year. Sometimes, the best cure is just taking time to sit with your thoughts.
