Amid the sexual assault allegations brought forth against hip-hop mogul, #RussellSimmons, the New York Police Department has launched an investigation into the claims.

According to LATimes, NYPD’s special victims unit is reportedly investigating the claims against Simmons, which span three decades. A source told the publication that officials are in their early stages of the investigation, but have already begun reaching out to alleged victims.

Since last month, nearly a dozen women have accused Simmons of sexual misconduct, with a few accusing the mogul of rape. However, Simmons has denied any claims of misconduct, saying, he had never “had a sexual encounter that was not consensual or unlawful.”

Just one day after a new wave of accusations surfaced, including three rape claims, Simmons vowed to fight back against the claims. According to TMZ, the mogul even took a lie detector test to prove the allegations against him, brought forth by Keri Claussen Khalighi, were false. His lawyers say he passed the test with flying colors and plans to do the same for other claims.

In the meantime, Simmons’ counsel says his client “fully supports and will cooperate with the police inquiry and is confident of a swift resolution.”
