⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s that time of the year when families gather, give thanks, share gifts and rightfully so, participate in some of the most peculiar, yet, so important New Year’s superstitions. No one really knows why, but we know our parents told us to, so we’ve kept these 10 superstitions around for each new year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. A Man Must Be The First Person to Enter Your House
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The myth behind this one is whatever type of person enters your home in the New Year will determine how your year will go. There’s some discrepancy today on whether or not it’s supposed to be a man, but the old wise tale is to have someone who is tall, dark and handsome.

2. Black Eyed Peas and Collard Greens
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whether you love them or hate them, you’ll be eating them on New Years. Why? Because they are said to bring good luck and financial prosperity. The peas represent good luck, and greens stand for money.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Kissing At Midnight
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kiss someone that means a lot to you at midnight. This will bring you affection for the next 12 months. This is the perfect time to grab bae.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Don’t Take Anything Out of Your Home
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even trash. Taking things out of your home may mean you will lose things in the next year. If you have food or anything that needs to go, take care of it before midnight or on January 2nd.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Don’t Loan Money Out
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You’re going to need all the coins you can get for the next year so make sure you don’t give anything out until January 2nd – even loans. Giving out money means you’ll be paying out money all year. Put some extra dollars in your wallet to ensure financial stability as well.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. Don’t Cry On New Years
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Crying will bring you unhappiness all year. So make sure you’re having fun and around people who bring you joy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. Loud Noises
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The New Year’s is a perfect time to be at a party or with friends because you will need those loud noises to scare away evil spirits from entering your house for the next year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8. Open All Doors At Midnight
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This will release all the bad energy from last year out into the world. This one is easy unless you’re in extremely cold weather.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
9. Fill Your Cupboards
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Empty cupboards mean you will have an empty new year and a year of scarcity. It’s time to hit up your fave store!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
10. Pray/Meditate
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This isn’t a superstition but it’s definitely an activity I do and I suggest others do as well. It’s a new year, with new experiences people, places, lessons, and adventures. You need to have your energy correct before you take on the next 12 months of your life. It’s cleansing, therapeutic and who doesn’t love a good talk with the OG upstairs.
Comment the superstitions your family does! Happy New Year!
