Florida Is So Cold That Iguanas Are Freezing and Falling From Trees

As the Northeast recovers from the “Bomb Cyclone” that brought low temperatures, several inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 60 mph, the Southeast is dealing with frigid temperatures as well. In fact, it’s so cold in Florida that iguanas are freezing and falling from their perches in trees.

According to reports, Florida temperatures dropped below 40 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday, the same day the “bomb cyclone” slammed the northeastern states. However, for the iguanas, who have made a home in the warm Miami suburbs, the low temperatures can cause lethargic tendencies.

But, officials are warning homeowners to be careful if frozen iguanas are found on their property. Although photos have surfaced of the frozen cold-blooded creatures, officials say they may not be dead. And if they haven’t croaked, there is a chance that the iguana can feel threatened and bite once they warm up. In most cases, reports state, the creature will eventually warm up and start moving again.
