Tavis Smiley was canned last month by PBS after there were reports of inappropriate relationships with some of his employees; allegations which he denies. However, Smiley has bounced back from that scandal, because he announced he has a new show that will focus on inspirational stories called, ‘The Upside with Tavis Smiley.’ The show will air on The Word Network and also will be streamed online.
Along with the show, Smiley will do a five-city (Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco) town hall tour to talk about relationships in the workplace; and plans to write a book and an online course called, “Leading by Listening.”

Over Smiley’s twenty plus years in the broadcast business, he has gone through a lot of ups and downs; so much so he has written books on rebounding from setbacks. Smiley says, “I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy.Having said that, the last time this happened, great things came out of it.”

Smiley hopes that the digital deal with the media company AerNow will put him in front of a younger audience and he also has an international distribution deal for “The Upside”.
