After Kandi announced that she would not be participating in the forthcoming #Xscape album, many fans were left confused and, quite frankly, hurt.
Xscape reunited early last year, as they shut down the stage at BET and Essence–which seemingly solidified their long-awaited comeback.
They even embarked on their first tour together in decades, ‘The Great Xscape Tour’. So, an album was only to be expected.
However, in a recent interview with Madame Noire, the RHOA star set the record straight, once and for all, on why she decided to opt out of the project.
“Soon as me and the girls started talking, initially, I had told them that I didn’t really want to do new music,” she admits. “The main reason I don’t is because I feel like I don’t want to mess with our legacy.”

At the height of the group’s career, they were one of the best-selling female groups of the era, topping the charts. But, Kandi says that, despite their undeniable talent, she feared that the newer music wouldn’t see the same success in today’s music industry.

“When we were a group, we had three platinum albums. All of our albums were hits; we never had a flop album. Things are not like how it used to be back then. Records are not selling like they used to do… back then. I don’t want to put out an album and it does not be on that same level.”

Kandi also expressed that being that she and the ladies don’t always see eye-to-eye on their creative ideas, musically, she wouldn’t want to put out something that couldn’t match the expectations from their previously-released music.

“I just kind of feel like it tarnishes things. My girls–all of us, I feel like everybody can really sing their a**** off. Performance wise, everything was amazing,” she says. “But, when people come to the show, they come to see the hits that they know us for and that they love us for. So, that’s why I don’t feel like there’s a need to just gamble on something that may not be.”
