With over twenty-five years in this game of Hip-Hop, no one could ever deny #Nas’ legendary contribution to the culture… which is exactly why New York City has always been proud to call him one of their own.

According to Complex, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) will be honoring the Queens, New York-born lyricist with the ‘Spotlight Award’.

The estimable accolade serves as a way to shed light on heavy-hitters in entertainment, such as film, television, music, publishing, digital content, and advertising.

“His roots run deep in our city. From Brooklyn to Queens, he is a product of New York City public housing and exemplifies what it means to give back,” MOME Commissioner Julie Menin says.

Menin will be presenting Nas with the honor at Sir Lucian Grainge’s 2018 Artist Showcase, which is set to be hosted by the Universal Music Group.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“As a musician, Nas has made his name known worldwide, helping to put New York City on the map,” she adds. “But, beyond that, he’s a role model for the next generation of young artists. He leads by example through [his] philanthropic efforts.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For Nas, the recognition of his many years of accomplishments is actually quite profound and dear to his heart.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Anyone who knows me know what New York City means to me, and this is special because of that connection,” the rapper said.
