Beyoncé has been known to make a statement. Whether it is a bold politically-charged performance or a subtle look-inspired by our fearless leaders, the “First Lady of Music” has used her platform to promote positivity, unity, peace and solidarity, and Grammy weekend was no different.
Just ahead of music’s biggest night, Beyoncé was seen rocking an all-black ensemble, paired with a beret in tribute to the Black Panther Party, but her support didn’t end there.
In a late entrance to the actual ceremony, the Queen was spotted in a turtleneck, cold-shoulder gown with a twin slits in the front, which was custom-designed by Nicolas Jebran, a large sculptural hat, Lorraine Schwartz earrings, a purple lip and Alain Milk sunglasses. Even her custom Judith Leiber clutch, which was shaped like a black panther, contributed to her tribute.

“It started with Super Bowl last January, and here we are a year later,” Beyoncé’s makeup artist, Sir John, told PEOPLE. “If you look at the beret form yesterday (Jan. 27), the turtleneck part of the dress tonight (Jan. 28) – its sculptural silhouette. It was a really strong, powerful moment. This is something that is representative of love and solidarity for her people,” John said of Beyoncé’s tribute to the revolutionaries.
John also reflected on another special moment the two shared last year, “Exactly a year ago she was pregnant!” He said, “We had a great day then, and I think today was great as well.”
