Let’s Talk: Will You Ever Get Over Your First Love?

You often meet your first love (or what you think is your first love) in high school or during college. This person is like a best friend or someone you spent every moment with, at the time. But, it rarely lasts long. The breakup is usually hard on one party and takes some time for that person to move on. Whether or not he/she has gotten over the heartbreak though, they always keep up a strong front. But, what is the truth behind the wall of defense?

Many will not admit the truth about how they truly feel about the one that got away because they don’t want to seem “pathetic” or “crazy” for still having some type of attachment to this person. Well guess what? It’s okay to have these feelings but you have to find a way to move on and never look back.

The truth of the matter is that this person will always have a special place in your heart. That doesn’t mean you want to be with this person. Regardless of how the two of you broke up, it was fun while it lasted. Don’t let the way you feel affect the way you handle future relationships. For example, don’t start picking a person apart, trying to make them into someone they’re not. They are not your ex and you need to snap out of it before you lose out on someone special.

Your first love was your first and although you thought they would be your only, life got in the way. The two of you have probably grown into different people with different mindsets on life. You can always remember the good times but you need to self reflect. Try to figure out why you can’t let go. If you were to reach out, would they respond? So many unanswered questions but you have to find a way to answer those questions for you and only you.

It has been said that if you write them a letter pouring all of your feelings and emotions into it, you will feel better. The catch is, you cannot send it. Take the letter and burn it. Many have stated that it’s therapeutic for them and allowed them leave the past in the past. Who knows what the future holds? Only time can tell.
