The long running trademark battle over the name Blue Ivy Carter has a new twist, according to The Blast.
Event planner Veronica has opposed Beyoncé’s filing to use the “Blue Ivy Carter” name on a range of products, saying it is too close to her own wedding and event business, Blue Ivy. The Blast reports that Beyoncé’s legal team arranged a meeting to try to settle the dispute.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Beyoncé’s lawyers claim Veronica offered to drop her opposition in exchange for $10 million. They also say she proposed handing over her company and described the dispute as an opportunity for a business relationship instead of an adversarial proceeding. Per the filing, her plan would have left Beyoncé with the wedding planning business, the trademark and a new business partner.
Beyoncé’s team reportedly turned the offer down. Her lawyers now want Veronica to hand over evidence of the proposal, including a PowerPoint presentation, to support their claim that the opposition was about money. These are claims made by Beyoncé’s legal team in court filings, and a response from Veronica was not included in The Blast’s report.
