A Louisiana man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the 2016 road rage shooting death of former NFL running back Joe McKnight.
The shooting happened in December 2016 at an intersection in Terrytown, Louisiana, after a confrontation between Ronald and Joe that reportedly began with aggressive driving on a bridge. Prosecutors said Ronald fired shots through Joe’s passenger window.
Ronald, 56, was originally charged with second degree murder, which carries a life sentence. In January, a jury instead convicted him of manslaughter. He received 30 of a possible 40 years.
During sentencing, Joe’s mother gave a victim impact statement, saying, “To you, it might have seemed like an insignificant life to take, but it wasn’t.” The mother of Joe’s young son, Michelle, also spoke and said it will be her mission to make sure their son does not grow up with hate in his heart.
