⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Back in 2016, tragedy struck at a Terrytown intersection after a road-rage dispute involving Ronald Gasser and former NFL baller, Joe McKnight turned fatal.

The incident took place after a 5-mile race-induced confrontation that began with aggressive driving on a bridge and ended when Gasser firing three shots through McKnight’s passenger window.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Initially, Gasser, 56, was charged with 2nd-degree murder, which carries a life sentence, but in January a jury elected for a lesser charge and convicted the shooter of manslaughter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since then though, Gasser has been sentenced to 30 of the possible 40 years in prison for the death of McKnight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“To you, it might have seemed like an insignificant life to take, but it wasn’t,” McKnight’s mother said during her victim impact statement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The mother of McKnight’s child also released a statement, saying she will make sure her son doesn’t grow up to hate him, saying, “Ronald Gasser hear me when I say, it will be my life’s mission to make sure my son Jayden doesn’t grow up with hate for you.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Not because you don’t deserve it, but because he should not have hate in his heart,” Michelle Quick said.
