Cardi B rose quickly to success as a Love And Hip Hop star turned rap sensation, but before that, she was a stripper. Now, with a number one hit single under her belt, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper is continuing to use her voice to speak up for the women who can identify with her past.

“People say, ‘Why do you always got to say that you used to be a stripper?” Cardi reflected on the criticism she receives during a sit down with Cosmopolitan. “We get it.’ Because y’all don’t respect me because of it, and y’all going to respect these strippers from now on,” she continued.

“Just because somebody was a stripper don’t mean they don’t have no brain.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The rapper, who has revealed that she began stripping in order to make money to escape an abusive relationship, also spoke on the #MeToo movement.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The chart-topping rapper feels that many females in the hip-hop industry, including video vixens, won’t get the same support as other women in Hollywood who have expressed being victims of sexual misconduct.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“A lot of video vixens have spoken about this and nobody gives a fuck,” she says. “When I was trying to be a vixen, people were like, ‘You want to be on the cover of this magazine?’ Then they pull their dicks out. I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a ho. It don’t matter.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Despite the critique that she gets, Cardi B does not seem to be interested in not voicing her opinion on important topics. The rapper has always been vocal about serious matters like race and unfair treatment of others, and she doesn’t plan on changing, per her tweets.
