Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, a rookie forward for the Brooklyn Nets, made his mom’s birthday a day that she’ll remember forever. The 20-year-old NBA player, who was selected in the first round of this year’s NBA draft, signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Nets over the summer, and he knew exactly what he was going to do with that money. His mother Rylanda made a lot of sacrifices for him and his brother Rahlir while they were growing up, and he finally found the perfect way to thank her for all that she’s done for them.
On her birthday this past Friday, Rondae and Rahlir threw her a surprise party with close relatives and friends at her new house. They had been searching for a new house for her for a while, and they finally found the right one just in time for her special day. Rylanda was picked up and told that she would be going to a friend’s house. But when she got there, she had all the people she loved waiting for her with a cake in hand, along with the best birthday gift she could ask for from her sons. When she found out the house was actually hers, she was shocked to say the least and broke down in tears.
“She said it was her best birthday ever,” Hollis-Jefferson told the New York Post. “That’s huge for me and my brother, and my uncle, who is like a brother to us. … That’s big in our eyes, to be able to do that. Being able to change your mom’s life, to be able to put her in a comfortable situation. … It makes that feeling in your heart go to ease. Instead of worrying about where your mom is going, what she’s doing, it puts you at ease knowing she has a place of her own, and that she has somewhere to lay her head at night. It’s pretty special.”
You can watch how the boys pulled off the big surprise (but you might want to grab a tissue first).
