Police say a New York man killed his adult daughter, her adoptive father and the infant son he shared with her before taking his own life, according to reports and a 911 call obtained by WNCN.
On Thursday, the body of Steven, 42, was found in Dover, New York, with a gunshot wound that police believe was self inflicted. It happened just after his mother called officials to report that he had confessed to killing his 20 year old daughter, Katie, and their seven month old son.
Shortly after the call, officials in Connecticut responded to reports of shots fired and found a man and a woman dead in a pickup truck with New York plates. Officials identified them as Katie and her adoptive father, Anthony.
About 20 minutes later, officials went to the North Carolina home where Steven and Katie had lived to perform a welfare check. They found the couple’s infant son dead, in what officials described as a suspected homicide.
Officials say Steven is suspected in all three deaths. The motive was still under investigation, but officials believe the couple’s recent breakup may have played a role.
Steven and Katie had been arrested in January on incest charges. Katie was placed for adoption shortly after birth and reportedly reconnected with Steven when she turned 18. After the arrests, both were released on bond and ordered to stay away from each other, and their son went to live with a relative.
Days before the killings, Steven reportedly picked his son up from his mother’s home, saying he planned to take the child to see Katie. Reports say Katie broke up with him the day before the shootings.
