A Bexar County, Texas, sheriff’s deputy was arrested on Sunday while off duty on a felony charge of super aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the deputy as Jose Nunez. Sheriff Javier Salazar addressed the case at a news conference, saying the details are “heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting and infuriating all at the same time.” Authorities allege that the abuse happened on more than one occasion and that the young child suffered physical pain and minor injuries.
Investigators also allege that Nunez threatened the family with deportation if the child told anyone, which made them afraid to come forward at first. According to authorities, the child’s mother took her to a local fire station after the girl spoke up, and Nunez was arrested soon after. The child’s identity has not been released, and Baller Alert is not sharing any details that could identify her.
Sheriff Salazar said the girl is now safe and that the case is still being processed. He also said his goal is to separate Nunez from the department as soon as possible. Authorities said they were working on paperwork to help protect the family while the case moves forward.
Nunez is charged, and those charges are allegations that have not been proven in court. Baller Alert has not seen a public statement from him or an attorney.
