One day after being named a person of interest, William, the older brother of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in the death of Roosevelt, a family friend whose body was found at Janoris’ New Jersey home.
According to TMZ, William was taken into custody in New York on an unrelated parole warrant just hours before the body was found. Bergen County, New Jersey prosecutors have since announced the charge. NBC New York reports that prosecutors allege Roosevelt and William got into a physical fight that led to Roosevelt’s death.
Prosecutors stressed that the charge is only an accusation and that William is presumed innocent. Reports say aggravated manslaughter in New Jersey can carry a sentence of 10 to 30 years if a person is convicted.
NBC New York reports that Janoris was not home and that a message left for him was not immediately returned. The Giants said they were monitoring the situation. No statement from William had been reported at the time of this story.
